Combining ability of physiological traits in forrage maize Ciência e Agrotecnologia
Redivo,Greice Daiane Rodrigues Gomes; Faria,Marcos Ventura; Rosa,Jocimar Costa; Ono,Elizabeth Orika; Rodrigues,João Domingos; Adriano,Elisa.
ABSTRACT The exploitation of the existing genetic variability for the physiological traits related to the yield and quality of maize forage can assist in the development of superior inbred lines and hybrids. The objective of this work was to evaluate the general and the specific combining ability and the nature of gene effects of physiological and chemical traits of forage maize genotypes. Two groups of genotypes and 16 hybrids resulting from a 4x4 partial diallel scheme were evaluated. Group I consisted of two commercial hybrids (AG8025, P30B39) and two elite inbred lines (LEM2 and LEM3). Group II consisted of four experimental inbred lines originated from different populations of forage maize breeding program. In total, 24 treatments were evaluated,...

Differences in morphological and physiological leaf characteristics between Tabebuia aurea and T. impetiginosa is related to their typical habitats of occurrence Acta Botanica
Capuzzo,Juliana Pfrimer; Rossatto,Davi Rodrigo; Franco,Augusto César.
The genus Tabebuia is representative of the Cerrado biome, occurring in savanna and forest formations. These vegetation types are associated with distinct environmental conditions in terms of water availability, microclimate and soil properties. We compared morphological and physiological traits between Tabebuia aurea (Silva Manso) Benth. & Hook. f. ex S. Moore, which is typical of the savanna vegetation, and T. impetiginosa (Mart. ex DC.) Standl, which is commonly found in the gallery forests that occur along streams and rivers. Both were sampled in savanna conditions under full sun. The savanna species had higher values of leaf and petiole thickness, specific leaf mass, maximum CO2 assimilation on a leaf area basis, stomatal conductance,...

Gas exchanges in peach palms as a function of the spad chlorophyll meter readings Rev. Bras. Frutic.
Tucci,Maria Luiza Sant'anna; Modolo,Valéria Aparecida; Erismann,Norma de Magalhães; Machado,Eduardo Caruso.
The close relationship between the chlorophyll-meters readings and the total chlorophyll and nitrogen contents in leaves, has allowed their evaluation both in annual and perennial species. Besides, some physiological events such as the CO2 assimilation have also been estimated by chlorophyll meters. This work was carried out aiming to evaluate the gas exchanges of peach palms as a function of the chlorophyll SPAD-Meter readings. Three year-old peach palms from Yurimaguas, Peru were studied in Ubatuba, SP, Brazil, spaced 2 x 1 m in area under a natural gradient of organic matter which allowed four plots to be considered, according to the peach palms leaves colors, from light yellow to dark green. The SPAD readings and the stomatal frequency of leaflets were...

Photosynthesis and carbon gain under contrasting light levels in seedlings of a pioneer and a climax tree from a Brazilian Semideciduous Tropical Forest Rev. Bras. Bot.
Silvestrini,Milene; Válio,Ivany Ferraz Marques; Mattos,Eduardo Arcoverde de.
In this study we evaluated photosynthetic characteristics and patterns of biomass accumulation in seedlings of two tree species from a Semideciduous Tropical Forest of Brazil. Seedlings of Trema micrantha (L.) Blum. (pioneer) and Hymenaea courbaril (L.) var. stilbocarpa (Hayne) Lee & Langenh. (climax) were grown for 4 months under low light (LL) (5%-8% of sunlight) and high light (HL) (100% of sunlight). Under HL, T. micrantha showed higher CO2 assimilation rates (A CO2) and light saturation than H. courbaril. Under LL, A CO2 were higher in H. courbaril. Under LL, total chlorophyll and carotenoid contents per unit leaf area were higher in H. courbaril. Chlorophyll a/b ratio was higher in T. micrantha under both light regimes. A CO2 and Fv/Fm ratio...

Physiological responses and production of 'Syrah' vines as a function of training systems Scientia Agricola
Favero,Ana Carolina; Amorim,Daniel Angelucci de; Mota,Renata Vieira da; Souza,Claudia Rita de; Regina,Murillo de Albuquerque.
Plant architecture and its interaction with agricultural practices and environmental constraints is determinant for grapevine canopy structure, which is related to carbon assimilation, bud fertility and fruit quality. In this context, this study evaluated the performance of field-grown 'Syrah' grapevines conducted by two management systems: Vertical Shoot Position (VSP) or a modified Geneva Double Curtain (GDC), in Pirapora, state of Minas Gerais, Brazil, during the winters of 2007 and 2008. The evaluations of leaf area, water relations and net CO2 assimilation were made at the end of the ripening period. Yield per vine and per hectare were estimated and mean berry weight and diameter, total soluble solids, pH and titratable acidity were evaluated during...
